Packing

Don’t burden yourself with non-essentials when packing.

  • Bedding is provided, including sheets, blankets, pillow cases and pillows. You may want to consider bringing a sleeping bag for extra comfort.
  • Informal clothing for activities other than the ceremony and reception
  • Bring a warm jacket and layers for cool evenings
  • Comfortable shoes (heels don’t work the best on outdoor paths!)
  • Rain gear
  • Swimsuits
  • Toiletries
  • Towels for both swimming and bathing
  • Flashlight for walking safely at night (the cabins have electricity inside)
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Sunscreen & bug repellant
  • If you need a crib, stroller or mobility scooter let us know in advance so we can reserve one

Sandy Island staff will transport luggage, but it must be strong and self-contained. Please limit weight of individual bags to 35 lbs. or less.  Small personal items and open bags should be carried on the boat. Consider packing your clothing in plastic bags within your luggage (we are on a lake and it keeps your gear dry if it is raining).

Dress Code and What to Bring With You

Sandy Island YMCA is a gorgeous island and family camp where people relax and have fun. We’ll be in comfortable, casual clothing for the majority of the weekend (i.e. jeans, t-shirts). Please pack clothing that’s comfortable and you can play in.  On Saturday night, people are free to dress up (we will be!)

Sports Equipment

All types of equipment are available at camp. You may wish to bring personal equipment such as tennis racquets, fishing tackle or softball gloves. For tennis players, smooth-soled shoes are required on our clay courts.

Baby Food

Please bring food for your baby. Kitchen staff will happily assist you in heating and refrigerating your food.
